CONTEXT:
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), the UN Migration Agency is a dynamic and growing inter-governmental organization, with 174 member states. IOM is committed to the principle that “humane and orderly migration benefits migrants and society”. Established in 1951 and now active in over 440 field locations worldwide, IOM works with partners, government, and civil society to promote international cooperation to address operational challenges of migration and mobility, assist in the search for practical solutions to migration problems, and to provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, including refugees and internally displaced people. IOM addresses the migratory phenomenon from an integral and holistic perspective, including links to development, to maximize its benefits and minimize its negative effects.
Under the direct supervision of the ICT Assistant and overall supervision of the Head of Resources Management Unit in Maputo, the incumbent will be responsible for providing support and assist the offices’ activities in relation with ICT unit.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Provide general IT support to office staff, including troubleshooting computer issues, software installations, and printer problems.
- Assist in the monitoring and administration of LAN, Internet Connectivity, and equipment.
- Implement configuration of desktops and laptops for IT Services based on the latest IOM ICT Standard.
- Implement in-house information systems, communication infrastructure and video conference system to support day-to-day operations.
- Support IOM staff in the utilization of relevant IOM corporate applications and provide onsite end-user support to IOM Staff for helpdesk support when required. 6. Support larger IT projects under ICT Assistant supervision, such as system upgrades, migrations, or implementing new technologies.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned.
EDUCATION
Applicants to this internship must, at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
- Be enrolled in a graduate degree programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
- Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year of graduation.
EXPERIENCE
- While no prior work experience is required, some professional experience in Computer Science is desirable.
- Strong computer literacy: MS Office: Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint are an asset.
LANGUAGES
Working knowledge (both oral and written) of English and Portuguese is required.
